Happy Bloody Martyr's Day! ..What?

I'm a medieval historian. I have a hard time taking this holiday seriously.

But I do thoroughly understand people's desire to have romance in their lives at this time of the year--love is something that should be celebrated.

So in honor of True Love, here are three dramas where the couple's romance is just Meant to Be, not because fate wills it, but because they work on a level that means they're willing to fight to be together. That means a lot more than anything destiny has to say.

                                                   Healer
3. Healer (2014)

Always a favorite. I swear, this one makes every list I put on here.

Why?: Seo Jung Hoo and Chae Young Shin have one of the best on-screen relationships ever. They were playmates and cuddle-buddies as children, before tragedy kicked in. When they reunite as adults without knowing each other's identities, the trust is practically instinctive, and is only fostered further by their personalities--loyal, clever, brave, and true. They become friends, partners, and eventually acknowledge their feelings are more than that. They come together naturally, with plenty of sizzle and pop to make it drama crack of the highest order.

Verdict: It's a relationship (and a story) to be savored, much like a cup of cocoa with whipped cream consumed while curled up with your honey.

Have a Taste:

                                                  I Hear Your Voice
2. I Hear Your Voice (2013)

Another classic.

Why?: Park Soo Ha may start this drama idolizing his leading lady thanks to a childhood encounter that cements her in his head as a hero, but he swiftly comes to know Jang Hye Sung for who she really is--a slobby cynic only out for herself, with a tendency she hates  to stick up for people at the worst possible times. And he comes to love her just as she is. Even as he brings out the best in her (and she tempers the worst in him), he learns to value reality over fantasy, making their love truly genuine. Now that's what I call romantic.

Verdict: A tall cool glass of lemonade, with a twist of lime and a shot of vodka to give it a kick, on a hot day by the pool the first day you meet your SO. Don't forget your sunglasses.

And, finally...

                                    Kill Me, Heal Me

1. Kill Me, Heal Me (2015)

Ugh. It's a guilty pleasure, but it's so goddamn fun.

Why?: Cha Do Hyun and Oh Ri Jin have been saving each other over and over their entire lives, without knowing it. No one else completes each other quite like them--they are the keys to each other's memories, and ultimately their healing. Only together can they move on from their traumatic childhoods and into a sunny future. So, despite the various obstacles that come their way (his multiple personality disorder for one, her stolen identity for another), they don't let anything stand in their way for too long--when happiness is the other person, what can really matter more than that?

Verdict: The whole damn array of chocolates in the big heart shaped box, tied with a red bow and accompanied by a serious kiss.

(When your hero has a split personality disorder, you get two kisses for the price of one! I don't make the dramaland rules, I just follow 'em.)
**

So what's the conclusion here, folks? To work, love requires mutual trust, acceptance, and effort. If you've got that, then you've got True Love. Don't throw it away, and a happy Valentine's Day to all the lovers around the world. Here's to you, giving us the best humanity is capable of.
